In the Colegio, the month of August holds a special place in the hearts of students, teachers, and the entire Letran community as it denotes the celebration of the Buwan ng Wika. This annual occasion is a testament to the institution’s commitment to preserving and promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage and fostering the institution’s Maka-Bayan advocacy. The celebration was held from August 22, 2023, to August 31, 2023, with this year’s theme “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Wika ng Kapayapaan, Seguridad, at Ingklusibong Pagpapatupad ng Katarungang Panlipunan.” All through the celebration, Ms. Jovelyn Barrozo-Comesario (English-Filipino Club Adviser- Basic Ed.) and Ms. Regina Magat-Sinen (Communication Arts Coordinator) organized a variety of activities and events that connect students in meaningful ways, such that, furthering the use and enthusiasm for the Filipino language and expressing love and gratitude to our ‘Inang Bayan’. In line with the competitions, the pupils and students in the Basic Education Department successfully put through accomplish the activities which demonstrated their creativity, gift of talent, and skills. The following is the list of the contests and activities: Trivia Posting for All Grade Levels; Coloring Contest for Pre-Kinder 1 to Pre-Kinder 2, Kinder to Grade 1, and Grades 2 to 3; Poster Making Contest for Grades 4-6 and Grades 7-12; Ginintuang Tinig for Grades 4-6 and Grades 7-12; Poem Recital for Grades 1-6; and Spoken Word Poetry for Grades 7-12. The Ginintuang Tinig, Poem Recital, Spoken Word Poetry, and awarding ceremony took place at the Pilgrims Center, Manaoag, Pangasinan on the 31st of August 2023.
As the celebration reached a conclusion, the winners from the particular competitions were announced and given certificates as an acknowledgment for their endeavors, skills, and hard work throughout the juncture. The Buwan ng Wika built confidence among students, empowering them to embrace their linguistic roots and value the richness of their heritage. Furthermore, by immersing students in activities that celebrate the national language, the Colegio instills a sense of cultural identity and pride as the institution serves not only for God and Letran but also for our cherished country.
